OSBURN FAMILY TREE - Descendants of Jesse OSBURN & Elizabeth Sarah LEMASTER - 5 generations
Claudia's paternal 4-times-great grandparents were Jesse OSBURN (1780 - 1863) and Elizabeth Sarah LEMASTER (1790 - 1860) who married 18 Feb 1809 in Knox Kentucky, although Jessie had been born in North Carolina and Elizabeth in Amherst Virginia. Together they had 10 children including their oldest Lavina OSBURN who married Billy HENSON Jr on 7 Apr 1824 in Floyd County Kentucky.
Claudia's descent from Jesse and Elizabeth OSBURN is:
OSBURN LINE
Debate is ongoing about who the parents of Jesse OSBURN really are. Tradition seems to have it that they were William OSBURN and Matilda BUCHANAN, but this has not been proven to my knowledge. Some claim he is connected to the "Loudoun" Osburns of Virginia. Others disagree. There are also theories and conjecture about a connection to Capt. Enoch OSBORNE. I don't think anything has yet been resolved.
Matilda BUCHANAN was reportedly the daughter of Samuel BUCHANAN (1690-1774) and Mary Martha RYAN (1710-?). The BUCHANAN family were wealthy land owners in New York, NY. A James BUCHANAN died in 1831, and left an estate in heart of oil fields estate New York to all living descendants 100 years from death. In 1931, Claudia's grandfather Angus HENSON swore an affidavit he was a blood relative of BUCHANAN who married an OSBORNE. I have not yet done independent research on this BUCHANAN line.
An excellent and well-researched Osburn family history book was compiled and privately published back in 1972 by Josephine (Walker) Blakey. It was titled "An Osburn Family, 1750-1970 - Family of Jesse Osburn & W/Elizabeth LeMaster Including their Known Issue ... And Their Known Descendants Through 1970" (I have not included the names of their children which was also included on the title page.) A digitized version of this book is available through the familysearch.org catalogue, LDS No TN-187018, and can be downloaded (be patient) at: https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE744552
LEMASTER LINE
According to other researchers, Elizabeth Sarah LEMASTER was born in 1790 in Amherst Virginia. We believe she had 10 children with Jesse OSBURN: Lavinia 1805, Sarah 1807, Jonathan 1809, Lewis / Louis abt 1810, Edmund 1813, Nancy Jane 1815, Mary Ann 1817, Wilerson ?, Andrew 1826 and Henry 1827. She died in 1860 in Flat Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky, 3 years before her husband Jesse.
Elizabeth's parents were Eleazer LEMASTER (1760-1857) and Machell TACKETT (1762-1793), who had three other children (Elijah, Lewis and Francis / Frank) before Machell died in Spartanburg SC, perhaps due to childbirth complications as Frank was also born in 1793. Eleazer subsequently remarried a Rachel RAMEY and had further children, half-siblings for Elizabeth.
An interesting history of Eleazer LEMASTER has been posted on findagrave.com, memorial #32767844. They claim that Eleazer was the:
- Father - Claude Angus HENSON (1919 - 1954)

- 4G grandparents - Jesse OSBURN (1780 - 1863) + Elizabeth Sarah LEMASTER (1790 - 1860)

An interesting history of Eleazer LEMASTER has been posted on findagrave.com, memorial #32767844. They claim that Eleazer was the:
Son of John Lemaster & Sarah Vest
Eleazor was in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1790, then moved to Lee County, Virginia and later to Knox County, Kentucky. Listed in Floyd County census for 1810, 1820, and 1830. In 1824 he patented 150 acres on Mudlick in the present Johnson County, KY. The 1850 census of Johnson County shows him age 90, living with his daughter Elizabeth.
Eleazer & John Lemaster moved to Spartenburg, SC ca 1789 & stayed abt 5 years - reported there by 1790 census (as was a John Tackett). Next report was 1797 - 1800 tax lists of Lee Co., VA, the 1802 - 1810 tax rolls of Knox Co., KY, reporting land on the Cumberland River (area now in a part of Harlan Co. which is adj to Lee Co, VA.
Eleazer Lemaster was buried in the Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Stafford. According to Johnson Co. Ky. federal census in 1850, Eleazer was 90 years old and born in North Carolina. This puts his date of birth around 1760. He was 97 years old when he died.
So was Eleazer's daughter Elizabeth Sarah LEMASTER really born in Amherst Virginia in 1790? Or in Spartanburg SC? There are always more questions.
In addition to the Osburn Family book mentioned above, the source of many of these details is likely the website of an experienced researcher William Mattheis. Bill posted his report titled "Descendants of John (Lemaster) LeMaistre" (sources cited), which traces the LEMASTER line back to the Isle of Jersey off the Coast of France in the early 1600s. The following descent has been summarized from this report, starting with Claudia's 4-time-great grandparents:
