I also like the idea of a printed book that you can touch and feel (refreshing in this digital age), that will also leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. To that end, I have just designed and ordered a hard covered, printed family history book which I titled "ANDREW, RICHARDSON, COMPTON Ancestors of Mabel Marion Andrew Henson Taylor". It is only 22 pages, so it barely dents the surface of my extended family tree files, but it focuses on my mother's family, including many old family photos along with a text summary of her life, her recent lineage and earlier origins. Love of this family is what got me started in genealogy back in the 1980s when my maternal grandparents were still alive, and I hope that this book will give enough of an overview to prompt interest, questions and further research by others as well.
I created this book using Shutterfly's online design and layout app. I have used them before to create picture books for other purposes and found their quality to be excellent, and the creative process of authoring and laying out my own book very enjoyable and rewarding. They are definitely worth the price, but I was quite happy to take advantage of a recent coupon offer for this project. This time I chose the 8.5" by 11" format.
I am most happy with the results, and anticipate that the printed version when it arrives in the mail from the US in about 3 weeks will meet my high expectations! See what you think ...
